When a German man asks a German woman to marry him they exchange rings…but no engagement rings. They exchange a wedding band…no diamonds…no fancy designs. A simple, beautiful band that they wear on their left hand. Throughout their engagement the band stays on the fourth finger of their left hand and on their wedding day they move the ring to their right hand. Nothing flashy.

I love it.

However, my brother-in-law knew that his beautiful girlfriend who was visiting Canada needed something different. So he designed a ring for her. Here in Germany there aren’t engagement rings…you can’t walk into a jewelry store and find one, so it had to be custom made. So interesting, eh? He went online, found designs he liked and drew it out. Not only once, but the engineer in him made different copies with sizing differences. If you look closely, apparently there are differences…but I couldn’t really tell!

These are his drawings and I think that this needs to be put away, in a memory box…something so sweet cherished from a time when all was dreaming of the life together to come.
